Kurumsal yönetimin ve sürdürülebilirliğin ekonomik, çevresel ve sosyal boyutlarının birlikte düşünülmesi, işletmelere etkinlik ve verimliliğin yanı sıra rekabet avantajı da getirebilir. Bu açıdan bakıldığında kurumsal yönetim ve kurumsal sürdürülebilirlik konusunda yaşanacak gelişmelerin, işletmelerin performansına yansımalarının olabileceği düşünülebilir. Çalışmanın amacı kurumsal yönetim, kurumsal sürdürülebilirlik ve finansal performans arasındaki ilişkilerin incelenmesidir. Bu amaçla Kurumsal Yönetim Endeksi’nde yer alan şirketlerin 2015-2019 dönemi finansal performansları, bu şirketlerin aynı zamanda Sürdürülebilirlik Endeksi’nde de yer alıp almamasına göre seçilen yedi finansal performans göstergesi açısından karşılaştırılmıştır. Çalışmada ayrıca Kurumsal Yönetim Endeksi’nde yer alan şirketlerin Kurumsal Yönetim Derecelendirme notları açısından da değerlendirmeler yapılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonuçlarına göre özkaynak karlılığı göstergesinde Sürdürülebilirlik Endeksi’ne de giren şirketlerin bütün dönemlerde üstünlüğü dikkat çekmektedir. Piyasanın olumsuz seyrettiği dönemlerde ise Sürdürülebilirlik Endeksi’ne de giren şirketlerin nispeten daha az olumsuz bir performans gösterdikleri sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Ayrıca 2016 yılı dışındaki diğer yıllarda, Sürdürülebilirlik Endeksi’nde de yer alan şirketlerin, en az 5 finansal performans göstergesinde daha olumlu bir performans sergilediği görülmüştür. Öte yandan her iki endekse giren şirketlerin Kurumsal Yönetim Derecelendirme notları ortalamasının sadece Kurumsal Yönetim Endeksi’nde yer alan şirketlerin ortalamasına göre daha yüksek olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır.
Considering the economic, environmental and social dimensions of corporate governance and sustainability together can bring business efficiency and efficiency as well as competitive advantage. From this point of view, the developments in corporate management and corporate sustainability may be reflected in the performance of the enterprises. The aim of the study is to study the relationships between corporate management, corporate sustainability and financial performance. For this purpose, the financial performance of companies listed in the Corporate Management Index for the period 2015-2019 was compared with the seven financial performance indicators selected according to whether or not these companies are also listed in the Sustainability Index. The study also evaluated the corporate management rankings of companies included in the Corporate Management Index. According to the results of the study, the profitability indicator of self-source companies that enter the Sustainability Index also highlights the superiority in all periods. In the periods when the market looks negative, it is also achieved that companies entering the Sustainability Index have shown relatively less negative performance. In other years beyond 2016, it has also been shown that companies included in the Sustainability Index have shown more positive performance in at least 5 financial performance indicators. On the other hand, it has been revealed that the average corporate management rating score of both indices is higher than the average of companies listed only in the Corporate Management Index.
Considering the economic, environmental and social dimensions of sustainability and corporate governance together can bring a competitive advantage as well as efficiency and productivity. When viewed from this angle it can be thought that developments in corporate governance and corporate sustainability may have reflections on the performance of enterprises. The aim of the study is to examine the relationships between corporate governance, corporate sustainability and financial performance. For this purpose, the 2015-2019 financial performances of the companies included in the Corporate Governance Index were compared in terms of seven financial performance indicators selected according to whether these companies are also included in the Sustainability Index. In the study, evaluations were also made in terms of Corporate Governance Rating scores of companies included in the Corporate Governance Index. According to the results of the study, the superiority of the companies included in the Sustainability Index in the return of equity indicator is remarkable in all periods. It has been concluded that companies that are included in the Sustainability Index show a relatively less negative performance in periods when the market is negative. In addition, it was observed that the companies included in the Sustainability Index in other years except 2016, displayed a more positive performance in at least 5 financial performance indicators. On the other hand, it has been revealed that the average of the Corporate Governance Rating grades of the companies included in both indices is higher than the average of the companies included only in the Corporate Governance Index.
