Demographic data show that the population of elderly is growing rapidly. With one in nine people in the world aged 60 years or over, projected to increase to one in five by 2050, population ageing is a phenomenon that can no longer be ignored. Given increasing older population, the imperative for active ageing has become prominent, and the question of how older people find meaning and satisfaction in their lives is now to the forefront at multiple levels; personal, family, societal, governmental and global. Such issues were tackled in improving lifelong learning (LLL) in older person life. The aim of this study is to define the current situation of U3A, and evaluate the implementation of best practices in the world. The method of the study is based on the literature review, a study based on the acquisitions of elderly from the perspective of lifelong learning and their effects on active aging, and best practice examples will be included. The University of the Third Age (U3A), a lifelong learning programme that rooted in peer-support and knowledge; adopted in several countries worldwide implemented. U3A have been found to raise the social integration, psychological benefits and quality of life of elderly. Thereby leading them to optimum levels of active and successful aging among elderly people.
