Abstract:

In the field of lexicography, it is a clear diagnosis that a term and definition of uncertainty in our country. The main reason for these uncertainty is that, in my opinion, the lexicography scope has not yet been drawn with sharp lines or has not been placed on a specific frame. This is why so far we have very different opinions about the acceptance of lexicography with an appropriate concept for our language. Terms such as dictionary science, dictionary science, dictionary science, dictionary science and lexicography are examples of the different terms of use of the field (Akalin, 2010, p. This difference in use is based on the different tasks charged to the lexicography by different scientists. However, it may be possible to determine as clearly as possible the scope of the work area that we have charged many tasks, such as creating dictionaries, examining and doing research subjects, and which we have called the terms we ranked above. Therefore, the concept of lexicography will continue to be used until the field is identified until different perceptions are not possible. After defining the lexicography and determining its scope, new terms will be recommended in accordance with these scope. In this regard, the terms dictionaries that are considered as the source of application in terms of terminology and the work of domestic and foreign scientists who have expressed their views by conducting comprehensive studies will be a guide.

It is obvious that there is a term and definition vagueness in our country in the field of lexicography. In my opinion, the main reason for these uncertainties is that the scope of lexicography has not yet been drawn with sharp lines or placed in a certain frame. For this reason, until now, there have been many different opinions about the Turkish term for lexicography that corresponds with the appropriate concept in our language. Terms such as “sözlük bilimi, sözlükbilim, sözlükbilgisi, sözlükçülük and leksikografi” are examples of different terminological uses in this field (Akalın, 2010, s. 164). The differences in the usage of terminology is based on the different tasks undertaken by different lexicographers. However, in order to decide on which term or terms can be used in this area, it is necessary to clearly define the scope of the research area in question to which we assign many responsibilities, such as making dictionaries, examining and researching. For this reason, until it is defined, the term lexicography will be used in order to prevent misperceptions. Once having defined lexicography and its conceptual framework is determined, an appropriate term will be suggested for this content. The works of Turkish and foreign scientists who have carried out comprehensive research on this subject, and terminological dictionaries that are considered as the sources of reference will guide us accordingly.
