Gender and space shape each other mutually by determining their world of meanings. The construction of gender and its circulation within the practices of everyday life are at the same time the producer, as well as the result of the inequal distribution of gender difference in space. The common indicatives of these two cases cause an artificial and imaginary asymmetric space to be organized in a society where women are always under control. Therefore, in works of Classical Turkish literature that are shaped by the Islamic culture, it is not possible to keep away from the perception of gender-centred and gender-centred space. In the study, the masnawis from Classical Turkish literature that are based on domestic issues and influenced by the local style; XVIIth century Nefhatü'l-Ezhâr of Nevî-Zâde Atâ'î, XVIIIth century Zenânâme of Enderunlu Fâzıl and XIXth century Mirât-i Cünûn of the Yenişehirli Avni, are examined within the context of gendered spaces. Women in these masnawis appear in limited spaces such as houses, markets, bazaars in various districts of Istanbul, Turkish baths, and in recreation areas such as Paper, and they are fictionally presented with their actions and attributes. These actions and attributes positively depict women who make themselves almost invisible in closed space and who approve the authority of men by conforming to the use of space that is allocated to them. Women who overstep are referred to with certain negative adjectives and they are disdained for not complying with gender norms. Therefore, it is possible to say that the relationship between women and space in masnawis is shaped within the framework of patriarchal ideology.
