Ettirgenlik ekleri, fiilleri geçişli yapar ve genelolarak hareketin özne tarafından başka bir yapıcıya yönlendirilmesini sağlar. Her ettirgenlik eki, fiile farklı ve yeni bir anlam kazandırır; dolayısıyla ortaya yeni bir fiil çıkar. Birden fazla ettirgerılik ekinin üst üste kullanıldığı fiiller için de ayru durum geçerlidir. Bu da, ettirgenlik eki getirilmiş bütün fiiIlerin sözlükte yer almasını gerektirir. Türk Dil Kurumu tarafından 1998 yılında yayınlanan Türkçe Sözlük, ettirgenlik eki almış fiillere göre tarandığında, özellikle birden fazla ettirgenlik ekiyle oluşturulmuş fiillerin çok azının adı geçen sözlükte yer aldığı görülmektedir.
