Bu çalışma ile hemşirelik bölümü öğrencilerinin ölüm kavramına ilişkin algılarının metaforlar aracılığıyla ortaya çıkarılması amaçlanmıştır. Bu araştırmada kalitatif araştırma yöntemleri arasında yer alan “olgu bilim” deseni kullanılmıştır. Çalışma grubunu bir fakültede hemşirelik bölümünde öğrenim gören öğrenciler oluşturmuştur. Çalışmaya 63 öğrenci katılmıştır. Öğrencilerden “Ölüm ………. benzer. Çünkü ……………………………………..” cümlesini tamamlamaları istenmiştir. Metaforların analizinde “içerik analizi”nden yararlanılmıştır. Öğrencilerin %58.7’si kadın ve %84.1’i birinci sınıf öğrencisidir. Öğrenciler, ölüm kavramına ilişkin 46 farklı metafor üretmiştir. Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin ölüm kavramına ilişkin ürettikleri metaforlar “başlangıç”, “son”, “sonsuzluk” ve “gizem” olmak üzere dört kategoride toplanmıştır. Bu çalışma ile ölüm kavramının “son” ile “başlangıç” arasında kalmış bir durum olarak tanımlandığı görülmüştür. Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin ölüm kavramına ilişkin algılarını ortaya çıkarmaya yönelik daha fazla çalışma yürütülmesi önerilmektedir.
This study aims to reveal the perceptions of the death concept of the nursing department by means of metaphors. In this study, the "event science" design was used among the quality research methods. Students have produced 46 different metaphors about the concept of death. The metaphors they produce about the concept of death by nursing students are gathered in four categories: “the beginning”, “the end”, “the eternity” and “the mystery”. This study has shown that the concept of death is defined as a state that remains between "the end" and "the beginning". More studies are recommended to be conducted to reveal the perceptions of nursing students about the concept of death.
The aim of this study is to reveal the perceptions of nursing students about the concept of death through metaphors. The study conducted for this purpose is a phenomenology which is designed based on the qualitative research paradigm. The study group consisted of students studying in the nursing department of a faculty. The study was completed with 63 students. Nursing students were asked to complete a prompt “Death is like …........... because ......................................”. Content analysis was used to analyze metaphors. 58.7% of the students are women and 84.1% are first-year students. Students produced 46 differ-ent metaphors related to the concept of death. The metaphors produced by nursing students regarding the concept of death are grouped into four categories as “beginning”, “end”, “eternity” and “mystery. In this study, the concept of death was defined as a situation between “end” and “beginning”. It is recommended that further studies are conducted to examine the perceptions of nursing students about the concept of death.
