POLİSİYE EDEBİYATTA KADIN DEDEKTİFLER: ESRA TÜRKEKUL’UN KAPALIÇARŞI CİNAYETİ KİTABI

Abstract:

Abstract:

In the classic police novel that emerged in the 19th century, Mandel (1996) describes a detective character trying to restore rationality by repairing the disruptive order. The social position of the detective is also associated with historical and social changes. In fact, the emphasis on the concepts of science and mind in the classical police novel is related to Enlightenment and positivism. The period between the two world wars is called the Golden Age of the British police. During this period, women writers and women detectives are in the forefront and the police fiction that is processed in peaceful and relaxing spaces is not dominated by violence. This period is accompanied by the hard-boiled tradition, which was spread in America in the 1920s, especially the hard-boiled tradition of male detective characters. At the end of the 1970s, the women’s perspective of police literature came to the forefront in America. The fact that the detective characters are not defined according to the patriarchal values in society, the fact that the woman is aware of its own subjectivity, the involvement of women from different sections of society in the fiction is a dramatic change in this period. In this study, the police novel discusses that the appearance of modern female detective figures is associated with female movement and feminist approach. In this context, Esra Türkekul’s book, Closing Murder, is studied in the context of how the amateur female detective character builds its subjectivity, its class attitude, its interaction with herself and other people.
