Bu çalışmanın amacı, fen bilimleri öğretmenlerinin hizmet içi eğitim uygulamalarına ilişkin görüşlerini ve beklentilerini ortaya çıkarmaktır. Çalışmanın örneklemini, Trabzon il Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğü bünyesinde görev yapan 110 fen bilimleri öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada özel durum yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak; açık uçlu anket ve yarı yapılandırılmış mülakat tercih edilmiştir. Anketlere verilen cevaplara göre seçilmiş on fen bilimleri öğretmeniyle de yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Anketlerin analizinde; içerik analizi, frekans ve yüzde kullanılırken, mülakatların analizinde betimsel analiz kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonuçları incelendiğinde; fen bilimleri öğretmenleri, bilim ve teknolojide meydana gelen değişimlerin eğitimdeki yansımalarının üstesinden gelebilmek için hizmet içi eğitim faaliyetlerinin düzenli ve belirli aralıklarla yapılması gerektiği sonucunda birleşmişlerdir. Hizmet içi eğitimin zorunlu olması durumunda; zaman sıkıntısı olacağı ve bu etkinliklere karşı olumsuz tutum gelişeceği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Dikkat çeken sonuçlardan birisi de çalışmaya katılan öğretmenlerin %20'lik kısmının hizmet içi eğitim faaliyetlerinin gereksiz ve boşuna zaman kaybı olarak düşünmeleridir. Çalışmadan elde edilen sonuçlara bağlı olarak bazı önerilerde bulunulmuştur.
