Abstract:

The main purpose of this study is to determine teacher candidates' perceptions on the concept of "hybrid education" through metaphor. The study group of the research, in which the phenomenological design was used, consists of totally 76 teacher candidates studying in the Department of Classroom teaching, Elementary Mathematics, Social Studies, Psychological Counseling and Guidance, Science, Turkish at the Education Faculty of Siirt University. An open-ended questionnaire was used as a data collection tool in the study. The form consists of two parts. In the first part, there are demographic characteristics of teacher candidates; In the second part, the teacher candidates are asked to complete the sentence that is “Hybrid Education is like/similar to…; Because..." The data obtained from the form were subjected to content analysis. In addition, metaphors created for hybrid education were analyzed in the MAXQDA program and visualized by word cloud.The reliability of the research was calculated with the formula [Agreement / (Agreement + Disagreement) x 100]. The mean reliability value among the coders in the formula was found 91%. At the end of the research, it was seen that teacher candidates developed totally 49 metaphors related to the concept of "hybrid education". Among the metaphors collected in nine categories, the most emphasized was moneybox, mirror, treasure and scales. Among these metaphors, moneybox and the treasure are in the "earnings" category, mirror is in the "reflection" category and scales is in the "balance" category.
