Abstract:

Objective: Professional attitude is common feelings and thoughts developed by individuals who practice the same profession over time. The aim of this study was to assess the attitudes of the physiotherapist and physiotherapist academicians towards physiotherapist profession who work in Turkey. Material-Method: The Physiotherapist and Physiotherapist Academicians aged 18-65 years who work in Turkey included in this study. The questionnaire was sent to the participants via internet. Demographic data and working conditions of the participants were recorded and their participation in professional training was questioned. Attitude Scale towards Physiotherapy Profession and World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale-Bref were applied. Job satisfaction levels were evaluated. Results: Two-hundred individuals with a mean age of 30.5±6.70 years participated in the study. Participants' total working time was 7.74±6.73 years, and weekly employment period was 33.47±14.24 hours. The total mean score of the participants’ Attitude Scale towards Physiotherapist Profession was 133.94±6.72. There was a moderately positive relationship between professional attitude and pjobsatisfaction (r=0.492 p<0.001). There was a weakly positive correlation with professional attitude and quality of life and monthly income (p<0.05). The negative correlation between professional attitude and total working time and weekly employment period was weak (p<0.05). No statistically significant difference was found when the participants’ professional attitude levels were examined according to working style (p>0.05). Conclusion: As a result, it was noted that physiotherapists and physiotherapist academicians have a positive attitude towards their profession. In order to develop professional attitude, the factors associated with it should be improved.
