Abstract:

Emotional abuse can be expressed as a misbehavior resulting in the negative psychological growth and development of the child. Today, children are exposed to emotional abuse in many ways and this situation is not noticed by the mothers. In this study, parents’ attitudes have been studied as an indicator of the potential for emotional abuse of mothers with 4-6 years of age. The study group consisted of 219 mothers with children between the ages of 4-6 years. The data was collected using the "Emotional Abuse Potential Measurement (DIPO)" and the "Parental Attitude Measurement (ETO)" for parents with a child aged 3-6 years. The measurement tools were applied to mothers by researchers. In the analysis of the data obtained there is a meaningful relationship between the variables, the Pearson Correlation ratio, and the "multiple regression" analysis was made to determine the subjects of the potential for emotional abuse. The study found that the behavior of the mothers that causes emotional abuse and the democratic parent attitudes have a negative level of meaningful relationship, while the authoritarian attitudes have a positive level of meaningful relationship. Emotional abuse of mothers appears to have a positive middle-level relationship between preventive behavior and democratic and authoritative parental attitudes, while over-protectional attitudes have a negative, weak, allowing attitudes have a positive, weak relationship.
