The palliative care is one of the most important milestones in the process of cancer struggle. Being a care philosophy, the palliative care is a top level organized care delivery system. While the development of this system varies from one country to another, it is rather at the evolution stage in the developing countries, compared to the developed countries. In Turkey, the palliative care activities are supported with a number of efforts for its integration with the national health system. To overcome the troubles experienced in the palliative care services, the Cancer Struggle Department under the Ministry of Health has designed a nurse based and community focused project called “PALLIA-TURK”. A considerable improvement has been scored in the palliative care training and organization within the framework of this project, and such improvements are expected to increase rapidly and steadily. In this review, the current status palliative care education and organization in the world and Turkey are summarized.
