Abstract:

One of the literary genres that can be used in the social studies course is the analytical story. This story, used to teach students about any subject and achievement with its cognitive, affective and psychomotor aspects; has three dimensions, called as intellectual, moral and empathetic. Through the analytical story that can be used at all stages of different courses, people and events in the past can be better understood, abstract information can be concretized, and daily life can be made a part of the course. Students can gain skills such as multiple perspectives, empathy, spatial cognition and reading comprehension, as well as gain values such as justice, honesty, love, respect and fidelity. The effective use of analytical story in social studies course depends on the level of knowledge and skills of teachers and teacher candidates regarding this literary genre. The aim of this study is to elicit the awareness of social studies teacher candidates about the analytical story. This study used descriptive method within the scope of quantitative methodology. The working sample of study consisted of 181 social studies teacher candidates, studying at the education faculty of a state university. In the study, a questionnaire including open-ended questions was used as a data collection tool. The collected data were analyzed with content analysis. As a result of the study it was determined that the participants knew the definition and dimensions of the analytical story. According to the them who argue that the analytic story contribute to the teaching of social studies, using of analytic story can make learning easier, provide permanent learning, make social studies enjoyable, and concretize abstract information.
