Abstract:

Information storage is considered one of the most important obstacles to the use of the strategic advantage of information within the organization. It is expected that the information will be shared within the organization for an effective working environment. However, research on information storage behavior shows that behavior is more common than thought in organizations and that information storage creates a significant cost for organizations. The behavior of storing information also affects the organization’s climate, as it causes mutual relations and confidence in organizations to be damaged. Therefore, it is important to understand the behavior of storing information in organizations with its causes and consequences to minimize all these negative consequences. In organizations, if well analyzed why employees store information, the factors that cause the storage of information can be managed and the harmful effects of the storage of information can be reduced, the effective use of information within the organization can be secured. This research aims to provide a comprehensive literary research on the causes and consequences of information storage behavior that is associated with the knowledge, the individual, the work, the organization, the mutual relationships and the contextual factors. In the study, information storage behavior was introduced, the aspects that differentiated from some other similar concepts were discussed, and the types of information storage behavior and the different scales included in the literature on the measurement of information storage were discussed. Finally, the organizations discussed the consequences of what reasons people are storing information and the behavior of storing information. Furthermore, the studies discussed with the details of the data storage behavior in the study were summarized with the reasons and consequences that the data storage behavior was associated with.
