Судьба английских военных, взятых в плен во времена Первой мировой войны, в частности в осаде Кут-эль-Амары, нередко вызывала интерес у исследователей. Помимо архивных документов, в исследовании использовались также и мемуары. Хотя мемуары не входят в разряд достоверных источников с точки зрения исторической науки, они бесценны для подтверждения некоторых данных и формирования нового угла зрения на то или иное событие. В данной статье исследуются мемуары английского офицера капитана Форбс Адама, принимавшего участие в битве при Сельманпак и обороне Кут-эль-Амара вместе с генералом Таунсендом в рядах 7-ой конной дивизии (7th Hariana Lancers) Британской армии, состоящей в большинстве своем из индийских военнослужащих. Здесь, капитаном Форбсом передаются детали вышеупомянутых битв, дается описание путешествия из Ирака в Анатолию, а также рассказывается о жизни в лагерях для военнопленных в Чанкыры, Кастамону и Йозгат, где он провел около тридцати месяцев своей жизни, о попытках побега из этих лагерей английских офицеров и солдат, дается характеристика османского общества, культуры, османских офицеров, а также наблюдений об Анатолии. В данной работы был проведен сравнительный анализ событий с учетом уже проведенных подобных исследований.
In World War I, especially in the aftermath of the Kûtü'l-Amâre Victory, the situation of many British soldiers who were captured was the subject of curiosity. In the studies on the subject, in addition to archival documents, memories sometimes were used.Although they are not accepted as reliable sources in terms of history,The memories sometimes were used are important for confirming some information and developing new perspectives. The memoirs the subject of this work, belongs to the British officer Captain Forbes Adam. Adam fought together General T ownshend in the defense of the Selmanpak War and Kûtül-Amâre, with the troops, largely composed of Indian soldiers and known as the 7th Hariana Lancers. In this study, the details of the above-mentioned battles will be explained by the captain Forbes, and Forbes Adam's journey from Iraq to Anatolia and his experiences in prison camps in Çankırı, Kastamonu and Yozgat where he stayed for nearly thirty months, and British officers and soldiers'attempts to escape from these camps, their observations and analyzes about the Ottoman society, culture and Ottoman officers and observations on Anatolia took place. Thus, some comparative evaluations were made on the subject by taking into consideration the studies so far.
