Abstract:

Van and therefore Gevaş, one of the leading centers of Eastern Anatolia throughout history, attracts attention with its historical texture belonging to the Turkish Islamic period. Gevaş Islamic Cemetery, which is one of the important symbols of Gevaş district and which also includes the Halime Hatun Vault, is the largest Islamic cemetery in Anatolia after the Ahlat Seljuk Square Cemetery with its witness and coffins. It is of great importance that the witnesses and sarcophagi found in this cemetery, which has a great importance in terms of Turkish and Anatolian Islamic history and art, are brought to light with all their aspects. During the examinations made in the area, it was observed that a large number of stones, each of which has a separate historical value, were broken, and the standing ones were bent and tended to break. It is very important for Turkish and World cultural history to resurrect and document the sarcophagi and witnesses lost in the weeds. In this study, the position of the historical cemetery in the tradition of Turkish burial art will be tried to be revealed. In this respect, many features of the graves in the cemetery have been tried to be analyzed in detail on 6 graves selected by sampling method.
