Mites cause both direct damage to many plants by sucking plant sap and indirect damage as vectors of virus. Especially many mite species of Eriophyidae, Tetrancyhidae and Tenuipalpidae play important role in transmission of plant viruses. But vector capacity of Tetranychidae species is rather weak because of their the toxic saliva injected into the tissue during feeding may kill the cells. Species of Eriophyidae are more effective to virus transmission because of being dependent of plant tissue, have to keep the plant alive.
