Nowadays, the geography known as Iraq has been a place where the Turks have been living since 674. This geography has always been a natural extension of Anatolia in some ways such as geography, climate and ethnical structure. Kirkuk Sanjak is located in the east of Cezire, an are in the North of Iraq and between Eupharet and Tigrish rivers. It was surrounded with Hamrin Mountains in the west, with Small Zap Canyon in the northeast, and in the southeast with Diyale Canyon. Kirkuk Sanjak was called as “Şehr-i Zor” in the official documents until the mid of 1892. Since it was confused with “Zor Mutasarrıflığı”, upon the order of the Sultan, its name was converted to Kirkük in 1893. This name was mentioned first in Şerefeddin Yezdi’s history of Timur. The Turks of Kirkuk are the descendants of different tribes and clans of 24 Oghuz settling in the area of Elcezire 900 years ago. Managerial structure of Kirkük has changed many times in different ways during the Ottomans, British rulings, during the Kingdom era, the first years of the Republic and especially durin the Saddam’s rule. Its ethnical structure has tried to be shifted like its managerial structure. This intervention was started in the era of British rule, and turned into a activity of Arabisation, gained speed in the Republican era, and finally reached the peak during Saddam rule. After the April of 2003, a vulgar Kurdification activity was cropped up. By the support of the USA, the city a Kurdish invasion appeared and the ethnical structure of the city changed rapidly
