The Islamic Revolution of Iran in 1979 has been a major turning point for the future of both Iran and the Middle East. The Islamic Revolution, where the foundation of today’s Iranian government was put on, took place with the combination of many factors. In addition to economic, political, and social factors, the attitudes of different ethnic groups in Iran against power have also been influential. One of these groups, and the most important, are Azerbaijani Turks. Azerbaijani Turks, which make up an important part of the Iranian population, have taken part in the process of the Iranian Islamic Revolution, as they have been influential in almost every period of the Iranian history. The aim of this study is to try to explain how the Azerbaijani Turks played the role in the process of the Iranian Islamic Revolution in the context of the central-environmental approach. First of all, the theoretical information about the center-environment approach will be provided. The process of the Islamic Revolution in Iran will discuss the important administrative changes in the history of Iran, and in this process the situation of the Azerbaijani Turks will be referred to. Finally, the impact of the Azerbaijani Turks will be discussed in the event of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.

The Iranian Islamic Revolution, in 1979, was an important milestone for the future of both Iran and the Middle East. The Islamic Revolution, which laid the foundation of today's Iranian administration, was realized by the combination of many factors. In addition to economic, political and social factors, especially the attitudes of different ethnic groups living in Iran towards power were influential. One of these groups and perhaps the most important one is the Azerbaijani Turks. The Azerbaijani Turks, which make up a significant portion of the Iranian population, have played an active role in almost every period of Iranian history as well as taking part in the Iranian Islamic Revolution. The aim of this study is to explain the role of Azerbaijan Turks in the process of realization of Iran Islamic Revolution in the context of center-periphery approach. For this reason, firstly theoretical information about center-periphery approach will be included. Then, important administrative changes in Iranian history before the process of Iran Islamic Revolution will be mentioned and in this process, the situation of Azerbaijani Turks will be discussed. Finally, the effects of Azerbaijani Turks will be discussed in the realization of Iran Islamic Revolution.
