Abstract:

It is among the responsibilities and obligations of the artist for an orchestra member to master the orchestra solo or passages related to her or his instrument. For this reason, a part of the performance requested from the candidates in the orchestra auditions include orchestral solos. In order to achieve the expected performance in this part of the exam, being prepared for solo or passages can provide a great advantage to the person. In this preliminary preparation process, besides studying the solo technically, having an idea about the written terms, getting information about the period and composer of the piece also plays an important role. In this study, the historical development of the bass trombone and its use in the orchestra are briefly mentioned. in the research, the most likely bass trombone solos to appear in the orchestral exams were determined, performance techniques and study suggestions were made. The works to be examined include R. Wagner Nibelung Ring Opera, G. Rossini William Tell Opera and R. Schumann 3rd Symphony.
