Abstract:

COVID-19 disease was first discovered in the Chinese city of Wuhan, Hubei. COVID-19 has affected 4 million people worldwide. Among the individuals affected by COVID-19, children form a special group because their cognitive, linguistic, physical and emotional development is not yet completed, and they need adults to meet their psychological and physiological needs. In the early days of COVID-19 pandemic, child cases were quite rare, but the rate of children affected by the virus gradually increases through family contact. It is known that the path of the disease in children is lighter than in adults and the mortality is rare. When cases of children affected by COVID-19 were studied, the first findings showed asymptomatic or slight symptomatic characteristics. Children under 1 year old and children known to have accompanying diseases have a more risky characteristic of the disease. It is known that newborns are at greater risk because their immune systems are not sufficiently developed. In the treatment of a child known as COVID-19, nurses play an important role with their care in the light of the current information. Nurses are responsible for informing the family, reducing anxiety, and taking advantage of the child’s appropriate health care, using the treatment and care as well as the advisory role.
