Abstract:

Historical novels, which are the result of reinterpreting and fictionalizing past events in the imagination of the authors, are written by some authors in order to preserve the values that constitute the national identity and to keep the national consciousness awake. Many historical novels have been written in Turkish literature from past to present. Lost Sanjak novel written by Mehmet Uluğtürkan is one of them. The author draws attention to what happened on the Southern front during the National Struggle with a unique perspective. In the novel, which was written for the liberation of Adana from the enemy occupation, the heroism and struggle of the people of Adana in the victory of the National Struggle is revealed. The plot of the novel begins with the arrival of Mustafa Kemal in Adana on October 31, 1918, and ends with the celebratory demonstrations of the liberation of Adana from the enemy occupation on January 5, 1922. What happened in this time period is conveyed as a historical process. In the novel, the resistance movement of Tekelioğlu Sinan and those around him, who was appointed by Mustafa Kemal to save Adana from the occupation during the National Struggle, is told. Throughout this study, the novel Lost Sanjak will be examined in all its aspects in terms of structure and theme, with a text-centered approach.
