The aim of this study is to determine the level of the use of metacognitive learning startegies by prospective teachers. The correlations between the level of the use of metacognitive learning startegies by prospective teachers and several variables such as gender, the type of high school the participants graduated from, the major of study and their academic achievement were also examined in the study. The study was designed as a correlational scanning research and the data of the study were collected through personal information form and the administration of “the scale of metacognitive learning strategies” developed by Namlu (2004). The participants of the study were a total of 128 prospective teachers attending divisions of pre-school education, primary school teaching and science education at Dumlupınar University. The participants took the course of “instructional principles and methods”. The data obtained from the administartion of the scale were analysed by using the SPSS 16.0. Those data about the personal characteristics of the participants were analysed using descriptive statistics. In order to identify any relationship between the level of the use of metacognitive learning startegies by prospective teachers and several variables such as gender, division they attended and their academic achievement both t-test and the one-way ANOVA were employed. The findings of the study indicate that the participants could make use of metacognitive learning strategies. It was also found that the variables tested had no significant effect on the level of the use of metacognitive learning startegies by prospective teachers.
