The present study aims at exploring the intricacies of human mind, as represented through the characters of Hester and Seemi in The Scarlet Letter and Raja Gidh respectively. The conceptual underpinnings of the study have been provided by Ghazali and Freud. The research design is based on thematic analysis of the selected novels. An in-depth study of the behaviour and moral standards of the female protagonists inside the parameter of the selected theories unveils the psychological insight of their respective novelists. In addition, it also offers an understanding into the relevance of the psychological issues in modern world; thus, consolidating our belief in the similar workings of human mind, notwithstanding the discrepancies in time and space. Moreover, this study has also discovered that the incorporation of Eastern and Western insights for studying literary characters has the potential of becoming an effective critical approach for psychological analysis in the realm of English literature.
