Abstract:

Abstract:

Purpose: This research has been carried out to identify the level of information about the central venous catheter care of nurses working in bed-treatment institutions in the province of Erzurum. Method: The universe of research was created in June-August 2017 by the Erzurum State Hospital of Palandöken, Regional Education and Research Hospital, Ataturk University Research Hospital, including these three hospitals, cardiology, neurology, cardiovascular surgery, chest surgery, nefrology, dialytics, oncology, intensive care and endocrinology, all nurses working in clinics where the use of central venous catheter is more frequent. The study has not been selected and 212 nurses have completed the study. The data collection used 'demographic information form' and 'Information levels form for nurses' on central venous catheter care. The assessment of the data is used by the number, percentage and average of the identifiable statistics. In advanced analyses, four-eye – square and fisherin – square tests were used. Results: The research results show statistically significant differences in the level of information on the care of central venous katheters, depending on the time of work, the level of training, the institution and departments in which they work (p<0,05). In comparison of the level of knowledge of nurses working in different institutions, nurses working in university research hospitals were found higher than nurses working in state hospitals with higher levels of knowledge about central venous catheter care (p<0,05). The result: the lack of training in service, the lack of material has been found to affect the nurses' central venous catheter level of knowledge.

Data assessment stage was analyzed by using number, percentage and mean of descriptive statistics. For the further analysis, chi squared with four groups and fisher’s exact chi squared test were used. Results: In the research results; knowledge levels about CVC care of nurses show a statistically significant difference according to working time of nurses, education level, the departments they work and in-service training (p<0.05). When comparing the knowledge levels of nurses working in different institutions, nurses working in university research hospital were found to have higher levels of knowledge about central venous catheter care than nurses working in state hospitals (p<0.05).
