This study aimed to characterize the body shape of obese patients and patients with hypertension enrolled in a clinical school of nutrition in the city of Lauro de Freitas, Bahia. A retrospective study was conducted from secondary data obtained from medical records of 96 obese adults. The variablesadopted weresex, age, weight, height, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC) and hip circumference (HC) were organized, categorized and analyzed in a spreadsheet, through specific equations and are presented as percentages. Itwas found that for BMI, 52% were obese class I, class II obesity, 28.1%, 16.7% and grade III obesity, the mean age was 40.52 years, increasing with the degree of obesity advancing age, the total obese, 29.2% reported hypertension, with a mean age of 47.29years, 66.7% had waist-hip ratio above the desired level, the change in DC at level 1 was 6.3 %, and in level 2 of 93.8%. Concluded that levels of obesity and obesity associated hypertension characterized in the study population reflect the observed data across the population, resulting in a highly significant correlation of anthropometric indices in the assessment of cardiovascular risk for use within outpatient, assisting in the development of educational activities in the secondary prevention of cardiovascular problems.
