Türk İslam geleneğindeki eski imar planları incelendiğinde en fazla binanın camiler olduğu, bu oranı takip eden binaların da hamamlar olduğu görülür. Bu da temizlik imandan gelir şiarını benimseyen Türk toplumu için hamamın sosyal hayatta yerini ve önemini kanıtlar niteliktedir. Bu çalışmada; Osmanlı geleneklerinden günümüze gelen, Anadolu’nun pek çok yerinde kendini gösteren, çok eski bir Türk âdeti olan hamam kültürü ele alınmış ve Gaziantep ili özelinde bu mekânların özel dönemlerdeki kullanım durumları ve kültürel ögelere yansıma izleri incelenmiştir. Bunun için Gaziantep’teki hamamlarla ilgili alan yazın taranmış ve ilgili dokümanlar incelenmiş, hamam kültürüne dair yaşları farklı aralıklarda olmak üzere doğma büyüme Gaziantepli olan yerel şahıslara ulaşılarak görüşme talep edilmiş ve gönüllü olarak katılan şahısların söylemleri yazılı olarak çalışmaya aktarılmıştır. Genç kızlar için hazırlanan çeyiz sandığının olmazsa olmazları arasında özenle hazırlanmış; hamam bohçası, örgü banyo lifleri, meşefe (havlu) işlemeleri ve banyo keseleri ile tasından tarağına, ince detaylarla süslenmiş hamam tasları, happaplar ve sürmedenlikler bulunması, hamamın Gaziantepliler için konumu ve önemine bir gösterge sayılabilir.
When we look at the ancient buildings in the Turkish Islamic tradition, it is seen that most of the buildings are mosques, and the buildings that follow this ratio are also hammas. This is also proof of the place and importance of hamam in social life for the Turkish society that adopts the poem of cleaning from faith. In this study, the Hamam culture, which is a very ancient Turkish edity, which comes from the Ottoman traditions to the present day, demonstrated in many places of Anadolu, and in the special Gaziantep region, the conditions of use of these places in special periods and the traces of reflection to cultural objects have been studied. For this, the area related to the hamam in Gaziantep was scanned in the summer and the relevant documents were studied, the age of the hamam culture in different intervals, the birth growth in Gaziantep, the local persons were requested to consult and the words of the people who participated voluntarily were transmitted to the work in writing. When the old zoning plans are examined, it is seen that the most buildings are mosques and the buildings that follow them are baths. This proves the place and importance of the bath in social life for the Turkish society, which adopts the motto that cleanliness comes from faith. In this study, the bath culture, which is a very old Turkish custom, which has come from the Ottoman traditions to the present day and manifested itself in many parts of Anatolia, has been discussed and the use of these places in special periods and the traces of their reflection on cultural elements have been examined in the province of Gaziantep. For this purpose, the literature about the baths in Gaziantep was scanned and the relevant documents were examined, local people of different ages, who were born and raised in Antep, were contacted and interviewed, and the discourses of the people who participated voluntarily were transferred to the study in written form. Among the must-haves in the dowry chest prepared for young girls, there are carefully prepared bath pack, knitted hammam fibers, bath towels (meşefe) embroideries and bath bags, as well as combs, hammam bowls, slippers (happaps) and mascara bottles decorated with fine details can be the indicators of the importance of the hammams in Gaziantep.
