Kur’ân-ı Kerim’in dili olan Arapça hem İslâm hem de dünya medeniyetinin önemli bir dilidir. İslâmiyet’ten önce farklı lehçelere ayrılmış, Ârâmîce ve Süryânîce’nin baskısı altına girmiş, bu nedenle yazılı edebiyat oluşturamamış olan Arap dili, Kur’ân-ı Kerim ve Hadis-i Şerif’in etkisiyle yeni bir misyon kazanarak dünyanın önemli dili haline gelmiştir. İslâmiyet’in verdiği ruh ve heyecanla devlet kuran Araplar, kurdukları devletlerde Arapçayı resmî dil olarak kullanmaya başlamışlar ve dillerini etkin bir yazı dili haline getirerek yabancı dillerinin baskısından kurtarmışlardır. Kur’ân-ı Kerim’in dili olan Kureyş lehçesi, dinî ve siyasî nedenlerle diğer lehçelere baskın gelerek bütün Arapların yazı ve edebiyat dili haline gelmiş ve Arapçanın dil birliğini sağlamıştır. Arapların dinî ve fikrî hayatlarında yenilik yapan Kur’ân-ı Kerim, Arapçaya yeni kelimeler, terkipler ve anlamlar kazandırmış, onun anlatım ve belâğat özelliklerini etkilemiştir. İslâmiyet’ten önce kullanım alanı bulamadığı için gelişememiş olan Arap yazısı, İslâmiyet’le beraber kullanım alanı kazanarak, İslâm medeniyetinin gelişmesine paralel bir şekilde gelişim göstermiş ve yaygın biz yazı haline gelmiştir. Kur’ân-ı Kerim’i anlamak ve şerh etmek maksadıyla başlayan Arapça dilbilgisi çalışmaları, yazılı hale gelmemiş Arap edebiyatının derlenmesine ve bu dilin söz ve edebiyat külliyatının kayıt altına alınmasına vesile olmuştur. İslâmiyet’ten önce Arap coğrafyasına münhasır olan Arap dili, İslâmî fetihlerle beraber geniş coğrafyalara yayılarak bir dünya dili haline gelmiştir.
