Özet:

In patriarchal social order father figure is constructed as a gender figure symbolizing the social structure, hierarchical structure and authority in the family. As the authoritarian head of the family, one of the social institutions, the father undertakes the control of power. The authoritarian identity of the father plays an important role in the child’s development. While the child cannot realize himself/herself before the authoritarian father, the lack of authority due to the absence of the father can also cause some negativities in the socio-psychological development and identity construction of the child. The relationship between authoritarian father and child is regarded inevitably as one of the common issues of humanity. The child confronted with the father’s authority and s/he may display different attitudes such as conflict with authority, obedience to authority, escape from authority, and self-censorship. The child, who obeys the authority of the father either voluntarily gives consent or has to give consent depending on the socio-cultural structure. This study aims to consider the relationship between authoritarian father figure and child in the context of the concept of obedience that the child exhibits as a way of behavior. In this context, it focuses on the reflections of the sacrifice of children who submit and obey by consenting to the father’s authority, as encountered in mythology and religious narratives, in art.
