2014 yılında Türkiye’de yaşayan Çerkesleri temsil amacıyla kurulan ilk siyasal parti olan Çoğulcu Demokrasi Partisi (ÇDP), Çerkeslerin ilk kez kendi kimlikleri üzerinden siyasal alanda var olabilmeleri açısından önemli bir kırılma noktasını ifade etmektedir. Parti, 2015 genel seçimlerine 7 ilde 9 bağımsız adayla girmiştir. Bu illerden biri de Çerkeslerin Türkiye’de en yoğun nüfusa sahip oldukları il olan Kayseri’dir. Seçim sonuçları Çerkes seçmen nüfusunun Kayseri bazında bir belirleyiciliğe sahip olduğunu göstermiştir. Buradan hareketle bu çalışma; Kayseri’de yaşayan 18-35 yaş aralığındaki Çerkes gençlerinin bu belirleyiciliğin ne kadar farkında olduklarını, Çerkes kimliği ile siyaset arasında nasıl bir ilişki kurduklarını, ayrıca genel olarak siyasal ilgi, bilgi ve katılma düzeylerini anlamayı hedeflemektedir. Çalışma 15 Mayıs 2018 - 18 Ağustos 2018 tarihleri arasında Kayseri’de belirtilen yaş aralığında yer alan 227 Çerkes genci ile yapılan anket ve yüzyüze derinlemesine görüşme yöntemi ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Anket esas itibariyle ilki katılımcıların siyasal öznelere, kurumlara ve süreçlere yönelik ilgi, bilgi ve katılımını, diğeri ise ÇDP ile ilgili düşüncelerini, siyaset ile Çerkes kimliği arasında kurdukları ilişkiyi anlamaya yönelik sorulardan oluşmaktadır.
The Multi-Democracy Party (CDP), the first political party established in Turkey in 2014 with the aim of representing the Cerkes, is a significant breakthrough point in terms of the existence of the Cerkes in the political field for the first time through their own identity. The party entered the 2015 general elections with 9 independent candidates in 7 provinces. One of these provinces is Kayseri, the province where the Cherkes have the most intense population in Turkey. The results of the election show that the voter population has a determination on the basis of Kayseri. From here, this study aims to understand how aware the Cherkes youth between 18 and 35 years of age living in Kayseri of this determination, how they established a relationship between Cherkes identity and politics, as well as the level of political interest, knowledge and participation in general. The study was carried out with the survey and face-to-face discussion method of 227 Cherkes young people in the indicated age range in Kayseri between May 15, 2018 and August 18, 2018. The survey is based on questions aimed at understanding the interest, knowledge and participation of the participants to political subjects, institutions and processes, and the other concerns about the CDP, the relationship they establish between politics and the identity of the Cerkes.
The establishment of the Pluralistic Democracy Party (ÇDP) which is the first political party that claimed to represent the Circassians living in Turkey, in 2014, was a significant breaking point indicating the willingness of the community for the first time to express themselves in the political arena through their ethnic identity. The party entered the 2015 general elections with 9 independent candidates in 7 provinces including Kayseri which is supposed to be the most densely inhabited one by the Circassian population in Turkey. The election results revealed that the Circassian voters had a determining electoral role in Kayseri. Regarding this, this study aims to explore to what extend the Circassian youth between the ages of 18-35 living in Kayseri are aware of their role, how they establish a relationship between Circassian identity and politics, as well as their level of political interest, knowledge, and participation in general. The research was carried out in Kayseri province, between May 15, 2018 - August 18, 2018, using questionnaire survey and face-to-face interview method with 227 Circassian youth. The survey consists of two main parts; one measuring political interest, knowledge and participation of the respondents, and the other measuring their thoughts on ÇDP and the relationship they construct between politics and Circassian identity.
