Abstract:

Suicide and suicide attempts are one of the major public health problems. In the study, Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Education/Research Hospital in the Judicial Medical Clinic with the assessment of the events organized due to the attempt to commit suicide; the regional and sociodemographic characteristics and the methods used, the aim is to develop recommendations in terms of protective measures. Method and means: from 01.06.2014 to 31.12.2018 the reports of applications caused by suicide attempt in the Judicial Medical Clinic have been evaluated retrospectively and statistical analysis of data has been made. Results: 405 of the incidents (5.3%) were in suicide attempt. 263 (%64.9) are women, 142 (%35.1) are men, the average age is 27.7 years (SD:11.1), December is 12-76 years. 11.8 percent of cases (n:48) are under 18 years of age, 66.9 percent (n:271) are between 15 and 29 years of age and women are mostly, 27.8 percent (n:111) are between 30 and 49 years. There is a significant difference in gender according to age groups (p<0.001). There is no significant difference between the moon and the season. The most frequently used methods of taking the drug (%86.2, n:349) were used. This was followed by the methods of using the cutting tool (%8.9, n:36) and asse (%2.2, n:9). The severity of injuries is that in 3.2% of cases life-threatening, 88.4% of cases are mild as to be removed by simple medical intervention and 8.4% are not mild as to be removed. Discussions and Results: Most of the incidents found in suicide attempts have chosen the use of the drug as a method. The rate of suicide attempts in women under the age of 19 was higher than in men, while the rate of suicide attempts in men under the age of 30-39 was higher. In this, social gender roles for women, youth identity search, freedom restrictions, and in men, social gender roles, economic causes, are considered to play a role. The findings obtained are important in order to keep light on the protective measures. It will be useful to direct the facts requested for suicide attempt to the social support units.
