Abstract:

In this study, the aim is to study the attitudes and views of the teachers of body education (BE) from the framework of the Theory of Planned Behavior towards special needs students. The research is designed in a mixed research approach where quantum and quality data collection techniques are used together. The study group consisted of 168 BE teachers working in 37 different secondary schools in Ankara. The data is collected through the personal information form, the scale of attitude towards persons affected by insufficiency and the semi-structured interview form. In the analysis of data, independent groups have been applied to t-Test, one-directional variance analysis and content analysis techniques. According to the study’s quantitative findings, BE teachers’ attitudes towards special needs students are found to be in a positive direction. Also; gender, age, age, special needs students and teaching experience and student insufficiency types variations have been shown to affect the BE teachers' attitudes towards special needs students. According to the quality findings of the study, it has been assessed that the majority of BE teachers have a positive perspective on the inclusion of special needs students in the BE course. Unfortunately, a small number of BE teachers have found that they have expressed negative views on the inclusion of specialized students in the BE classes due to the lack of material, the lack of physical structures of the school and classes and the lack of knowledge about specialized students and their training.
