Abstract:

In study aims it is studied to identify the patterns in the translation of idioms and formulaic utterances among three languages based on Jean Paul Vinay and Jean Darbelnet’s equivalence theory as dependent upon the studies in Schroeder’s work in terms of comparative lexicology and translation. The exact name of the work which was typed in 1835 is Grammaire Turque À l’Usage Des Français et Anglais Contenant En Outre Une Collection d’Idiotisme, de Discours Familiers et Un VocabulaireFrançais,Turc, et Anglais. This piece of work which was in the scope of Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language (TTFL) was prepared to teach Turkish to French and English learners. It can be considered as an exceptional piece of work in its time due to written in three languages. And also it is highly essential to be examined by the scholars who study in the area of Teaching Turkish to Foreigners. It refers to the current use of some idioms and formulaic utterances in terms of the way they are expressed with short explanations. The book includes structure, phonology, syntax, vernacular use daily speaking, idioms and also some Turkish glossary list in the last chapter. One of the interesting feature of the work that the any structure of Turkish literary language which were orthographically expressed in Arabic letters were not incorporated to the book. Another important details about the book are that the words which are in contemporary Latin characters are neat and intelligible. Based upon these features, the equivalence was evaluated in terms of the investigation of the author of the semantic relationship between source and target languages which was used on the translation of Turkish idioms and formulaic utterances into French and English
