Abstract:

This study was carried out to determine the phenological, morphological characteristics and fruit set rates of 10-year-old Texas, Nonpareil, Mandalay, Marta, Ruby, Padre, Primorski, Picantili, Desmayo Larguetta and Sonara almond cultivars grafted on seedling rootstock in Gaziantep province in 2019 and 2020. The first bloom in almond cultivars was observed in the first half of March, while full bloom occurred in the second half of March. The full flowering period changed according to the almond cultivars and years, and a period of 5 to 9 days passed between the first flowering and full flowering in the 2 years of the experiment. Kernel ripening took place in August in all three years of the study. The earliest ripening of kernel took place on August 2, 3 and 10 in Marta cultivar, while the latest ripening took place on August 27, 29 and September 2 in Padre cultivar. The highest rate of flowering and turning into small fruit was in Nonpareil (94.27%, 39.37%), while the harvested fruit rate was higher in Desmayo Larguetta (26.92%). While the ttree hight of Nonpareil, Padre, Primorski cultivars was higher, the crown width of Nonpareil, Marta and Sonora cultivars was higher. Annual shoot growth was higher in Texas (75 cm) and Sonora (70.67 cm) cultivars compared to other almond cultivars.
