Abstract:

Mehmet Âkif Ersoy (1873 - 1936) traveled to many cities and countries. Most of these trips as a duty were made to Bursa, Edirne, Antakya, Adana, Konya, Balıkesir, Kastamonu, Damascus, Lebanon, Aleppo, Berlin and Egypt. Between 1923 and 1925, the poet went to Egypt only to spend the winter. These trips, which took place under the auspices of Abbas Halim Pasha, turned into permanent life between 1926 and 1936. He traveled with his family to Egypt in frustration over the fact that the idea of the Islamic Union, which has been his ideal since his youth, was incompatible with the understanding of the newly established Republic of Turkey based on secular principles. Sense of art/Artistic perspective of Âkif, who received interest and respect in Egypt, changed due to his lack of sufficient social life; there was a period of silence in his literary activity. Also with the homesickness added, Âkif also experienced spiritual crises from time to time. As a result of the progression of cirrhosis disease, he was forced to return to Istanbul. In this study, Mehmet Akif's travels to Egypt after being briefly mentioned, his life there and his literary /activities will be covered extensively.
