Abstract:

Purpose - The relationship between the extreme right and populism in Europe is examined through the Ukraine-Russia war as an external factor through the 2022 French elections. Methodology – Qualitative research methods were used in the study. The discourses of political party leaders before and after the Ukraine-Russia war were analyzed through written, visual and digital media. Findings- The Ukrainian-Russian war has led to an increase in support for far-right populist parties, and their representation in the parliament has also increased. Due to the war, the political and economic theories of far-right populists are being widely discussed in the public sphere Conclusions – The Ukraine-Russia war brought about a process in which far-right parties with populist policies and discourses in Europe discussed their relations with Russia and analyzed their policies in the face of EU sanctions. In the 2022 French elections and across the EU, the Ukraine-Russia war has been effective in the increase in the votes of far-right parties that have developed a populist discourse.
