Abstract:

It is necessary to be preserved as the most important wealth in terms of being a set of values, norms, attitudes and behaviors that form the core of societies. The sensitivity shown to transmit and preserve the culture has made it possible for the Turkish society to acquire an identity in this context for thousands of years to preserve similar cultural codes. The culture is by nature transmitted, taught, and consolidated in the minds of people within the natural flow of life by the family, the environment and educational institutions. However, during the Covid-19 pandemic period it has become almost impossible to a healthy cultural transfer and build a cultural identity. As people have to spend a lot of time at home during the epidemic process, the increased use of digital video streaming platforms has created a gap in social communication, and this new lifestyle has uncertained cultural transmission. The outgoing emptiness is filled with a series video watch behavior called binge-watching on a nevi video stream platform. The aim of this study is to address the current dynamics of media consumption, to study perception changes that consumers may face. The subject and example of the study is one of the contents of the video stream platform, the Turkish production series named Respect has been selected, the social-cultural codes presented in the series and a kind of corruption creation of the violence phenomenon has been discussed by the application of the structure dismantling with the method of text examination. According to the study, the series has been found that it covers situations and expressions that are contrary to the traditional Turkish socio-cultural structure that could lead to social and cultural corruption. This kind of new media content can create negative attitudes and perceptions in the process of cultural and meaning-building that forms different experiences in the minds of the new generations over time, and content providers should be aware of social responsibility for such threats that may cause non-aging people.
