In this study; the impact of the nominal interest rates on inflation in Turkey, 2004:M01-2019:M08 period TÜFE, UFE, consumer loans interest rate and trade loans interest rate data have been studied using. As a result of the long-term analysis; in Turkey in the period 2004-2019, 1% increase in consumer loans interest rate consumer inflation 0.33, 1% increase in commercial loans interest rate producer prices inflation 0.59% increased. The short-term analysis shows that the positive and statistical significance of a period of inflation is a structural situation in the inflation in Turkey. As a result of the study, a two-way causal relationship between the rate of interest of consumer loans from TÜFE and the rate of interest of commercial loans has been identified. Furthermore, strong causal relationships have also been found between the interest rates of consumer loans and the interest rates of commercial loans.
In this study, impact of nominal interest rates on inflation in Turkey is investigated by using 2004:M1-2019:M08 period data of CPI, PPI, consumer credits interest rate and commercial credits interest rate. In long run analysis, 1% increase in consumer credits interest rates is found to rise consumer inflation by 0.33% and 1% increase in commercial credit interest rates is estimated to incline producer prices inflation by 0.59% in Turkey in 2004-2019 period. In short term analysis, the coefficient of one period lagged value of inflation is determined to be negative and statistically significant, demonstrating that a structural problem about inflation exists in Turkey. At the end of the study, one way causality from CPI to consumer credits interest rates and two way causality between PPI and commercial credit interest rates are found. Moreover, strong bilateral causality is also determined between consumer credits interest rates and commercial credits interest rates.
