Abstract:

The study aims to evaluate the viewpoint of Turkey towards mass tourism and alternative tourism in the 60 year period covering the years 1963-2023. The importance that Turkey gives to mass tourism and alternative tourism, in other words, the intensity of these types of tourism in the development plans, it is believed to be held light on the desires and expectations of tourist consumers in the periods related to the identification. In this regard, 11 five-year development plans have been studied using the content analysis technique, which is based on the quality analysis methods. According to the content analysis, the topic of mass tourism includes a total of 8 categories, including "financing, airline operations, principle, priority area, travel agency and tour operations, promotion, tourism use, investments"; the topic of alternative tourism includes a total of 7 categories, including "financing and expectations, small-scale facilities, seasonality, projects and plans, recreational areas and national parks, sustainability and diversification of tourism". The study found that in the first five years of the Development Plan (1963-1989) the principles of mass tourism were emphasized, and in the subsequent development plans (1990-2023) the principles of alternative tourism and sustainable tourism were held in the forefront.
