The Declared Comparative Excellence (RCA), revealed by Balassa (1965) is widely used in international trade competitiveness analysis. The RCA investigates whether a country or region has international competitiveness for a sector or for the economy as a whole. But in literature, the factors determining the competitive power achieved with RCA have not been much studied. The objective of this study is to investigate the factors that affect the competitiveness of the capital-intense goods of Turkey obtained with the described comparative advantages (RCA) through time series analysis. In the study covering the period 1989-2017, Zivot and Andrews (1992) used the structure-breaking unit root test, Gregory and Hansen (1996) used the structure-breaking matching test and the method of predicting the FMOLS ratio. The results of the analysis have shown that the macroeconomic indicators included in the model have a long-term relationship between the competitive power of capital-intense goods. According to the estimated results, GDP, exchange rate and direct foreign capital investments have a positive impact on the international competitiveness of capital-intense goods but have a negative impact on patents.
