Abstract This study aims to analyze the planning of educational practices for the prevention of HIV/AIDS carried out with students from a public school in southern Brazil. This is a qualitative research conducted with six professionals of a team of the Family Health Strategy involved with educational activities in public school, through thematic content analysis and field diary, in 2016. Two categories emerged: Content Organization and educational materials; and planning flow. It was evident that the materials and content used were not consistent with the students’ reality, as they brought different values of the community and that the planning flow was unidirectional. Thus, it is necessary for educators to plan health education moments that dialogue with the reality and context of the students and that actions are built with the participation of the school community.
