Ekonomi-politik modeller tüketici-seçmen ve hükümet arasındaki ilişkiler üzerinde yoğunlaşarak toplumun ekonomik ve politik kesimlerinin karşılıklı etkileşimini inceler. İktisat politikalarının etkinliği açısından iktisadi oyuncuların davranışları dikkate alınmalıdır. Tüketicilerin amaçları ile iktisat politikalarının oluşturulması sürecinin ilişkisi bu açıdan önemli olmaktadır. Aynı zamanda iktisat politikalarının sonuçlarını değerlendirecek olan tüketiciler, en yüksek faydayı elde etmeyi amaçlarken, politikacılar ise oy ençoklaştırması hedefinde olmaktadır. Bunu gerçekleştirebilmek için “popülarite endeksi” ve “seçim stratejileri”ni dikkate alınması başarı hedefi açısından öne çıkmaktadır. İktisat politikalarının etkinliği genel olarak üç makro ekonomik değişkeninde (işsizlik, enflasyon ve büyüme oranı) istatistiksel olarak anlamlı sonuçlar elde etmeye bağlı olmaktadır.
