Abstract:

This study aims to investigate the effects of COVID-19 on the regional tourism sector indices. Statistical analyzes have been carried out by using regional tourism sector indices including North America, Europe and Asia Pacific. The research includes a two-year period between 22 January 2020-22 January 2022 starting from the date when COVID-19 started to spread worldwide. That period was divided quarterly into eight parts for analysis. The research which is based on daily data uses COVID-19 data in the world and in the regions included in the scope of the current study.. The numbers of daily cases, daily deaths, cumulative cases and cumulative deaths were taken as COVID-19 data. The findings of the study reveals that the regional daily deaths related to COVID-19 is the most effective item which affected the regional tourism sector indices negatively. The study contributes to the literature with its wide scope including regional and periodic comparisons.
