Abstract:

Purpose: In this study, it is aimed to examine the separation of Alevism from Sunnism from a historical perspective. Method: In the research, document search and examination technique, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used. Findings: Although the relations between Alawites and Sunnis differed in strict limits in the past, today it is seen that the difference between Alawites and Sunnis has decreased compared to the past. Alevis and Sunnis are socially-culturally separated from each other in terms of their lifestyles and beliefs. Implications: Although the separation of Alevism and Sunnism has manifested itself in the Anatolian lands throughout history, today this separation has been reduced to a lesser extent by leaving the community. Originality: It is expected that the research carried out on the structures of in-depth literature review on the Alevism - Sunnism separation will contribute to researchers and readers in terms of revealing the said separation from a historical perspective.
