Mâtüridî’nin Te’vîlâtü’l-Kur’ân adlı tefsirinde dilbilim meselelerinde kendisine en çok müracaat ettiği kaynağı Ebû Avsece’dir. Ancak hakkındaki bilgilerin sınırlı olması sebebiyle Ebû Avsece’nin tarihî ve ilmî şahsiyeti meçhul kalmıştır. Te’vîlâtü’l-Kur’ân’da Ebû Avsece’den iktibas edilen metinler kendisinin dilbilim ağırlıklı bir tefsirinin varlığına işaret etmektedir. Bu makalede Ebû Avsece’nin söz konusu kimliği ve tefsirciliği belirginleştirilmeye çalışılmıştır. Hayatı ve ilişkili olduğu kişiler hakkında bazı tespitler yapılmış, tefsir anlayışı analiz edilmiştir. Basra dil ekolünün çizgisini takip ettiği anlaşılan Ebû Avsece’nin âyetleri açıklarken dil tahlillerine ağırlık verdiği açık bir şekilde görülmektedir. Kur’ân lafızlarının lügavî anlamları, iştikâk ve sarf durumları, kıraat farklılıkları onun en çok üzerinde durduğu hususlar olmuştur. Yorumlarını sözcüklerin Kur’ân âyetleri ve Arap dilindeki kullanımları ile delillendirmiştir. Kur’ân’ın bazı âyetlerini başka âyetlerle ilişkilendirmiş, vücûh ve nezâir kapsamına alınabilecek açıklamalar yapmıştır. Mevcut veriler değerlendirildiğinde Ebû Avsece’nin hicrî 3. asrın güçlü bir dil ve tefsir âlimi olduğu söylenebilir.
In the words of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the greatest of them is the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). But because of the limitation of the knowledge about it, the historical and scientific personality of Abû Avsece has remained confused.
