Öğretmen Adaylarının Bilim İnsanlarına ve Çalışma Yöntemlerine İlişkin Görüşleri ve Metaforları

Abstract:

Araştırmanın amacı kimya ve fen bilgisi öğretmen adaylarının bilim insanlarının çalışma yöntemlerine ilişkin görüşlerinin ve bilim insanına dair oluşturdukları metaforların incelenmesidir. Araştırma nitel araştırma desenlerinden durum çalışmasına uygun olacak şekilde tasarlanmıştır. Araştırma Kimya ve Fen Bilgisi Öğretmenliği Anabilim Dalı birinci (n=16, n=27) ve son sınıflarda (n=25, n=30) öğrenim görmekte olan öğretmen adayları ile yürütülmüştür. Araştırma verileri araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanmış olan dört açık uçlu soru ile toplanmıştır. Araştırma verileri içerik analizi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Sonuçlar genel olarak değerlendirildiğinde, ortak temaların ve farklılıkların olduğu görülmektedir. Son sınıftaki katılımcılar daha gelişmiş görüşler sunsa da özellikle hayal gücünün önemi gibi bazı noktalarda zayıflardır. Bu nedenle bilimsel sorgulama ve bilimin doğası gibi temaların öğretim sürecine dahil edilmesi önerilmektedir.

Opinions and metaphors of teachers candidates about the scientists and methods of work

Abstract:

The purpose of the research is to study chemistry and science knowledge teachers’ opinions about the methods of study of scientists and the metaphors they create about the scientist. Research quality research patterns are designed in such a way that will be suitable for the study of the situation. The research was carried out with the teachers candidates who are studying in the first (n=16, n=27) and last classes (n=25, n=30). The research data was collected with four open end questions prepared by the researchers. The research data is evaluated by content analysis. When the results are generally evaluated, there are common themes and differences. While the participants in the last class offer more advanced views, they are weak at some points, especially in the importance of imagination. Therefore, it is recommended that topics such as scientific questioning and the nature of science be included in the teaching process.

The aim of this study is to determine the views of prospective science and chemistry teachers from different grade levels on the scientific methods of scientists. The research method is case study which is a qualitative research design. First grade (n=27, 16) and last grade (n=30, 27) prospective Science and Chemistry teachers participated in the present study. 4 different open-ended questions prepared by the researchers were used in order to gather the data. Content analysis was performed for the assessment of the research data. When the results are considered in general, the findings contain common themes and also some differences. Although the last grade participants presented more sophisticated views on the topic, they were weak at certain points such as the significance of imagination. For this reason, department courses should also include the themes of scientific literacy and the nature of science.
