At the beginning of the 16th century, the Ottoman central administration decided to strengthen the strongholds of the castles, which were the most important defense structures against the attacks of two great powers like Austria and Russia. In 1703, the restoration of the Bana Luka castle, one of the most important of these castles, began. The castle, as stated in the documents, is a structure of solid wood and filled with soil. The repair process of the castle took approximately 12 years. One of the main reasons for such a prolongation of time is the difficulty of the economic situation. In addition, the state's attempt to repair castles in many places at the same time along the border has contributed to this. In this article, the process of transforming an Ottoman castle made of masonry stone in its first construction and then of solid wood due to dilapidation into a masonry stone structure due to is discussed in the light of the events of the period.
