Kur’ân-ı Kerîm son peygamberin tebliğine mahal olan Medine/Yesrib şehriyle ilgili geniş malumat sunmuştur. Âyetler, hicret vesilesiyle yurt edinilen bu mekânın toplumsal yapısına ilişkin bilgiler ihtiva etmektedirler. Bu çalışmada bu bilgiler ekseninde malum yerleşkenin sakinleriyle ilgili tespitlerde bulunulması hedeflenmektedir. Medine ahalisini Kur’ân’da ismi geçen diğer belde halklarından ayıran hususların başında, içlerinde münafık olarak isimlendirilen bir zümrenin bulunuyor olması gelmektedir. Hicretin akabinde güçlenen müminleri zor durumda bırakmak için fırsat kollayan bu menfi karakterler birçok âyete konu olmuşlardır. Medine şehrinin ismen zikredildiği âyetlerin tamamına yakını onlardan bahsetmektedir. Medine’de yaşayan topluluklar içerisinde müspet davranışlarıyla göze çarpan zümre müminlerdir. Kur’ân’ın methine mazhar olan bu grup bazı hatalarından dolayı da eleştirilmişlerdir. Kur’ân-ı Kerîm’de Yahudilerin karakterlerine, inançlarına ve yaşantılarına dair birçok anlatım yer almaktadır. Mekki surelerde daha önceki peygamberlerin ümmetleri olan Yahudiler konu edilmiştir. Hz. Peygamberin muhatabı olan Yahudilerle ilgili bilgiler medenî sûrelerdedir. Medine ile ilgili anlatımlarda bahsi geçen diğer bir zümre de Hıristiyanlardır. Hıristiyanlığa dair Kur’ân’ın verdiği bilgilerin bir kısmı ise Hz. İsa, annesi ve havarilerle ilgili anlatımlardan müteşekkildir.
