Abstract:

Violence has existed at every stage of history, both in interpersonal relations and in social relations. In the historical process, its form, scope, limitations, meaning, purpose and effects have constantly changed. It has been perceived differently by society at every stage of change that society has gone through. In traditional societies, violence has seen as a part of natural life and was considered normal. In modern societies, violence has gained on institutional (army, police, prison etc.) and has become centralized and monopolized by the nation-state. In the postmodern society, the monopoly has been lifted end violence has spread to all areas of society, even into the private lives of individuals. Postmodern violence is invisible, unheard and unfelt. In short, as power and power relations in society change, violence has emerged in different forms. The changes and transformtions that violence undergoes show that violence is shaped by the culture in which it flourishes. Therefore, violence is a social phenomenon and the damages it causes, the advantages and disadvantages it creates etc. It affects the entire society holistically. Contrary to general expectations, no development, change or transformation in society has reduced violence; on the contrary, it has increased it by differentiating and diversifying.
