Abstract:

Every man who dedicates his life to thinking enrichs the world’s thinking accumulation. The feelings and thoughts produced by the intellectual begins with the people around them who are in direct communication and relationship with it, reaches everyone who reads their writings and works, listenes to their conversations, explores their ideas. In the remaining period of his life, Cemil Meriç (1916-1987), who was 38 years old, needed help to read the books, the name most performing this service is undoubtedly his daughter, Umit Meriç (1946). What is the intellectual inheritance received from the father of the daughter, student, assistant, thinker and companion in the 71 year of intellectual life of Cemil Meriç, who performed this task with a responsibility and seriousness that dedicated their years without interruption after 33 years of his father? What are the interactions, transformations and differentiations of the thinking worlds of Hope Merich and Cemil Merich, how can it be defined, what directions this thought relationship has shown? The intellectual dimensions of Cemil Meriç’s 71 years, Hope Meriç’s 75 years of productive life can be identified, classified, linked and explained through certain main tracks. These can be evaluated in four dimensions, including the environments in which their intellectual lives are shaped, the worlds of thought and progress in which they are, their approaches to Eastern and Western thought, their attitudes to nationalism and religion. 33 years, they give an example of mental maturity with their father-daughter interactions, who are in a almost uninterrupted intellectual journey. The comparative study of the worlds of thought of Cemil Meriç and Hope Meriç, who took the principle of learning and teaching throughout their lifetime, Turkey's XX. It reveals the main signs of the century’s thought history. This comparison also understands the intellectual connection of two people who read, think and write together in the idea axis and ultimately gives a multi-faceted map of the intellectual heritage transmitted from father to daughter.
